Understand the New Changes in Asset Accounting and How It Supports Universal Parallel Accounting (UPA)

With SAP's recent release of the Universal Parallel Accounting (UPA) solution, SAP has finally delivered a true end-to-end solution for parallel accounting. This solution has been in development for cloud customers but now in S/4HANA 2022 has been released for On-Premise as well. As a feeder system to the GL, Asset Accounting has had to make significant changes around how values are tracked in parallel to support the new UPA requirements.

  1. Hear about the full feature release of UPA's impacts and changes on Asset Accounting
  2. Understand the integration related topics cover APIs, equipmenet integration and cFIN.
  3. Review the flexibility changes regarding depreciation

Declutter Your Chart of Accounts With the New Bank Account Ledger

For as long as customers have implemented SAP Finance, they have had to create hundreds of GL accounts to track their cash flow between various payment methods. Sometimes, the cash accounts make up 30, 40 or even 50% of the total chart of accounts. SAP has also delivered finance subledgers for AP, AR, and Fixed Assets ever since R2… but nothing for cash accounts. With SAP S/4HANA 2020 OP, that has finally changed.

1. Hear about SAPs new solution to minimize the chart of accounts for cash accounts with their Bank Account Ledger (BAcL) solution.
2. Understand the full approach to a successful migration of the Bank Account Ledger
3. Learn tips and tricks regarding changes in configuration for payment processing

Universal Parallel Accounting - The Next Big Thing?

The Universal Journal was the big thing in initial releases of SAP S/4HANA, combining data from Financial Accounting and Controlling in one document and Universal Parallel Accounting is the next evolution in this journey meeting the apparently conflicting needs of Financial Accounting (local accounting principles, local calendars) and Controlling (a common accounting principle and calendar) not to mention historical differences in the handling of currencies in the different applications in a harmonized approach.

In this session we’ll look at the use cases for Universal Parallel Accounting: parallel valuations to support different accounting principles in the same company code, the use of different fiscal year variants in the same company code, parallel valuations for corporate steering purposes as opposed to arm’s length trading between affiliated companies and the handling of different currencies in an international organization.
We’ll look at the impact of the introduction of the ledger and the changes in Asset Accounting, Overhead Management, Inventory Valuation, Production Accounting and Margin Analysis and explain how this new approach can reduce manual work for international organizations.
We’ll also look at how the event-based approach to revenue recognition and production accounting removes tasks from the local period close and how on-the-fly profit elimination simplifies the corporate close.
We’ll also cover what to avoid now to ensure that a smooth migration to Universal Parallel Accounting in the future.

  1. What Universal Parallel Accounting is and how it differs from previous approaches
  2. How Universal Parallel Accounting supports real-time financial reporting
  3. What organizations can do now to ensure a smooth transition later.

Enabling Users: Key to Mastering SAP

Digital transformation can only succeed if the people working with software are fully on board for the journey. For this, the right enablement is key: Time users need to find a solution for their problem does not only affect their productivity, but also causes insecurity which in turn leads to less adoption and less willingness to use a software to its full extent. In this session, Sindhu Gangadharan, SVP of SAP User Enablement and MD SAP Labs India, will show the impact of a personalized user enablement that can be accessed where the user needs it and in the user’s language of choice on user adoption and the success of a digital transformation journey. She will show what we have already achieved, what we are currently working on, and what’s planned for the near future.

Modernise Time & Attendance Management with SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking

Time and Attendance (T&A) is a critical application for most organisations as it’s not only directly impacting payroll but also shapes employees’ experiences on day to day basis with more touch points than most other HR solutions. T&A has also been considered a weak spot in the SAP SuccessFactors Suite until recently. With the new Time Tracking module, this gap is closing fast. It’s not only user-friendly with a modern look & feel compared to the SAP HCM on-premise solution, but also comes with a broad and growing set of features.

In the first part of this session, we’ll have a brief look at the big picture of Time & Attendance in the SAP HXM architecture.

In the second part, we’ll explain the full scope of the Time & Attendance solution in SAP SuccessFactors looking at processes, user experience, typical calculations and flexibility. This part includes a live demo showing absence and attendance recording, calculations in the time sheet and time admin view as well as a brief glimpse into configuration. In this part we’ll touch upon these points:
• Work schedules
• Absence recording and leave requests

• Time accounts and flextime cycles
• Weekly and monthly time collectors
• Calculation of overtime, pay types, time accounts
• Input-Validations and alerts
• Approval processes incl. single record approval
• Time administrator view

In the last part we’ll finish off with some tips for decision making including a comparison with the on-premise SAP HCM solution and project planning.

Drive Talent Growth, and Internal Mobility with SAP SuccessFactors Opportunity Marketplace

Employees often find it easier to find growth opportunities outside of the organisation on Linkedin. Line managers, desperate for talent, also engage in costly external searches. The old-school rigid, centralised and siloed approaches to Talent Management just can’t keep up with the speed of change. SAP SuccessFactors recognised that organisations can no longer afford to ignore so much of the talent they have and came up with the “Whole Self” vision and the Opportunity Marketplace.
In this vision, employees can bring their “whole self” with all competencies, skills, experiences, behavioural strengths and preferences to work and “showcase” it on an internal Marketplace. On that same Marketplace the organisation and individual line managers or project managers can offer assignments, development initiatives like trainings or mentoring programmes, new roles etc. When the two sides come together, we have a lively Market, where Opportunities are created: SAP SuccessFactors Opportunity Marketplace.
As of today, this vision is not yet fully built, but we already have many useful features in place. It’s a great time to start small and drive adoption not just of a new piece of software, but of a completely new paradigm for Talent Development: a concert, where HR doesn’t have to play every single instrument, but becomes the conductor of a much more powerful orchestra.
In this session we will:

  • Explain the Whole Self Model and the Vision of the Opportunity Marketplace
  • Explain the processes and data already available and walk you through a demo with use cases including
    - Employees sharing their capabilities - Matching of employees with assignments like projects, fellowships, product testing etc. - Finding open positions to apply for or exploring general career opportunities - Assigning mentors and mentees to mentorship programmes - Finding learning opportunities
  • Discuss the prerequisites and which data sources
  • Explore implementation and adoption journeys to generate quick wins before the end of summer 2023

  1. Food for thought to implement a new vision for an empowered workforce
  2. Good understanding of what the solution offers today
  3. Implementation roadmap samples

Rising To The Challenge Of S/4HANA Public Cloud

RES has embarked on an S4 Hana Public Cloud journey. Along the way we have had to change the way we work, the way we think and the way we purchase and deliver I.T. Solutions.

We have changed our way of doing projects to Mission Led Teams, a non-hierarchical, cross functional, purpose-led strategic focus team who operates according to disciplines and principles in a trusting environment. It’s been great to see how people and teams develop and deliver using this approach.

We have changed our way of thinking to digital and cloud. Change management has been critical.

We have purchased S4 HANA Public Cloud edition through the RISE with SAP program and implemented our first system through a Baseline Activation contract with SAP – A 6 week project delivering a fully functional S4Hana system. The 6 weeks did stretch a little!

On top of that baseline system we are now eating the elephant of a full implementation in small bites, adding pieces of the business in an Agile manner, whilst maintaining our on-premise system as the system of record. This means getting to know and implement the SAP Cloud Integration suite as well as the BTP and SAP Build functionality.

Our full roll-out will take a while (up to two years) but it is at a much reduced risk and the business acceptability and change is brilliant. This approach is working well but took a lot of work to persuade SAP and our implementation partners that it was do-able.

Come and hear about and participate in our exiting public cloud journey.

  1. S/4HANA public cloud implementation,
  2. The use of the SAP BTP and integration tools and
  3. The different methodologies and approaches we are trying.

S/4HANA Margin Analysis – Data Driven Profitability Reporting

With S/4HANA, the management accounting profitability analysis tools have been changed from ERP CO-PA to S/4 Margin Analysis, with all dimensions needed for reporting now found in the Universal Journal ADOCA. These changes make it possible to have accurate data in real time for decision making, from granular analysis by the dimension of material all the way to an aggregate level by the dimension of customer group (as example).
In this session we’ll compare ECC to S/4HANA on premise, and learn how to distribute cost of goods sold in the general ledger based on cost components.
We’ll also explore features that can support continuous accounting, to facilitate a shorter financial closing cycle.
To complete our knowledge, we’ll discuss how to prepare for this transition.

  1. How to compare ECC CO-PA to S/4 Margin Analysis
  2. How to leverage product cost details in Margin Analysis
  3. Features that support continuous accounting for real time reporting

Modernize Your Reporting in Cost Management and Profitability Analysis

Fiori applications have come a long way since 2015/ 1503 (On Premise), providing more meaningful analytics for all levels of the Finance organization. For some organizations long rooted in ECC report painter/writer reports, the transition to Fiori can be challenging. Understanding the various types of Fiori app, and where the data is sourced, can turn this challenge into an opportunity to embrace these changes.

We’ll begin the session with an overview of the design and purpose of Fiori.
Then we’ll compare some of the best loved ECC reports to their counterparts in Fiori and introduce the most used new apps for:
• Cost Centers
• Internal Orders
• Product Costing
• Margin Analysis

  1. Purpose and design of Fiori
  2. ECC reports compared to Fiori apps
  3. Most used Fiori apps for Cost/Margin Analysis

2023 Top Business Innovation Trends

In this session, Timo Elliott, Global Innovation Evangelist for SAP, will cover some of the top business innovation trends facing organizations today. Illustrated with real-world examples of SAP Innovation Award customers using the latest SAP product innovations, we’ll take a look at three main themes:
• How can organizations innovate faster? We will review what industry analysts are saying about the future of technology and the enterprise and look at some real-world examples of “composable applications” using the latest opportunities such as machine learning.
• How can we empower business people to do more? We have an opportunity to enable more innovation by letting business people do more of it themselves, in their area of expertise, without IT and technology being a bottleneck. But it will require new ways of working and “designing for loss of control.”
• How can we close the gap between analysis and action? We have lots of data — the challenge has always been to embed data into the business moments where decisions take place. New approaches such as Data Mesh strategies and Data Fabric architectures help bring the technology to the data rather than the other way around.

Unleash your Data’s Full Potential With the Next Generation of SAP's ***STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL** Product Suite

Enterprises today are looking for end-to-end data and analytics capabilities which are closely tied to their business processes (Continuous Intelligence)

Business processes are implemented through business applications and enterprise expect real-time analytics to be integrated into these applications as turnkey solutions, without the need for long running expensive projects.
As a consequence of the requirement to tie data and analytics capabilities close to business processes, business applications vendors attach more and more importance to integrating data and analytics capabilities directly into their application workflows to ensure that end users can derive maximum value from data in the context of their daily work.

Also, they try to offer common data models across all business entities to ensure a consistent and uniform access to all data. Platform vendors (without a business application portfolio) try to pull out enterprise data from the business applications onto their platforms.

For SAP, deeply integrating technology into business application as well as providing a common data model are a must in the rapidly transitioning markets. SAP IS a clear leader in business application software with a majority market share. Therefore, SAP is integrating the very best of data and analytics capabilities into business applications across its solution portfolio.
Customers have realized that they are able to draw maxim value out of data when they look beyond system of record towards system of intelligence. To maximise data to value for an organisation, it is not sufficient to look at data in individual applications alone but across the suite of applications supporting business processes, providing analytics, ML and AI.

The need to create business value through data (data-to-value) makes the requirement to offer a unified data foundation (data backbone) for the Intelligent Enterprise – as part of the Business Technology Platform – obvious.
This unified data foundation has to enable Database Management, Data Management and Analytics (including Planning) across SAP’s solution portfolio and growth initiatives:
- Intelligent Suite
- Industry Cloud
- Business Network
- Business Process Intelligence
- Sustainability

  1. Maximise data to value for an organisation
  2. Deeply integrating technology into business application
  3. Providing a common data model to offer a unified data foundation for the Intelligent Enterprise

Gems of SAP SuccessFactors

SAP Identity Services, Necessary Evil or Unexpected Bounty?

All customer are being encouraged, or in the case of those wanting to use external learners, career site builder, work zone or stories in people analytics, forced into using SAP Identity Services. But rather than having to shoulder this as a requirement to adopt latest functionality, are there good reasons that we should go down this path anyway? In summary, yes. For the less summarised answer, join this session to find out some of the value you can realise for your SAP SuccessFactors systems without having to pay a single extra penny/cent/thebe/franc/sente... in subscription costs.

Today’s Trends Impacting HR and How SAP SuccessFactors’ Plans to Address them

Change continues to come to HR and HR technologies, even faster than ever before. The continuing evolution and maturity of new technologies like machine learning and artificial intelligence is opening up new ways to how we can reach and support every employee in the organization. Consumer applications and the experiences they deliver are forcing us to reexamine old assumptions about HR experiences, and designing for the needs and expectations of the user instead of just the HR process itself. And an increasing focus on a deeper understanding of the skills and capabilities of every person in the workforce is opening up new opportunities to drive internal mobility and plan for the future. This session will explore some of these new trends and technologies and share current and future plans of how SAP is innovating in the SuccessFactors solution to enable our customers to meet these new expectations head on – while at the same time delivering solutions to meet the ongoing daily demands of HR and organizational leaders.

Dynamic Discounting VS Supply Chain Finance: Why Choose?

Supply chain finance and dynamic discounting are two different ways to offer early payments to your suppliers – but which funding model do you choose to achieve your goals? The answer: both.

The benefits of supporting your suppliers using an early payment solution are clear: by enabling suppliers to receive payment sooner, you can bolster the health of your supply chain, strengthen supplier relationships and reduce the likelihood of disruption to your own business.

So far, so good — but deciding to adopt a solution is only the first step. There are other choices to make along the way, not least of which is what type of funding model you want to use.

For example, you could opt for a traditional bank-funded solution typically targeted at your top 50-100 suppliers. Or if you have excess cash available, you could put that cash to work by taking advantage of early payment discounts. But what if you want the flexibility to switch between the two funding models or use both models simultaneously?

That’s where Taulia comes in, offering the opportunity to unlock the unique benefits of a flexible financing solution incorporating both dynamic discounting and supply chain finance.

Solutions like dynamic discounting and supply chain finance can allow companies to secure risk-free discounts or preserve their working capital

With a flexible early payment platform that includes third party funding or self-funding, there’s no need to select one funding model over another – so why choose?

Don’t compare supply chain finance and dynamic discounting – make use of both.

When Techies Rule the World

We find ourselves placed somewhere amidst multiple advances in technology. The leapfrogs in innovation we spoke of mid-pandemic are already upon us. What was fit for purpose just months ago has already aged, and we are mildly ready to adapt.

As technologies become more deeply embedded in daily processes and tasks, the levels of abstraction between technologies and front end usage continue to increase. We find businesses relying more critically on data, insight and automation to prove performance to shareholders but erring on the side of caution when considering deeper investment into the same tech teams, stacks and frameworks that generate those insights.

The world is forcing a shift though. As cloud adoption rises, as digital strategies become clearer, as the best of breed or suite debate matures, as development, integration and architecture skills become more in demand, and as companies reshuffle their executive structures and areas of accountability, the strategic input and value of tech teams is growing rapidly.

The SAP world is no different and the successes that midsized, large and multinational companies have achieved through adoption of BTP capabilities have bolstered their competitive advantage. In this keynote, we delve into this trend, look to the future, and explore some phenomenal successes that highlight exactly why techies are set to run the world.

The power structure within companies has evolved and continues to change.
Tech teams have more business relevance than ever before and have a duty to learn and teach.
Platforms and methodologies to support (SAP-centric) tech innovation have seen phenomenal success around the world.

Build a Future-Ready Workforce: Talent Intelligence Hub

We have entered a world where employee skills, preferences, and day to day activities are under enormous scrutiny. People work remotely and companies need new ways to unlock human potential, reskill them, and offer them new opportunities as the company evolves.

Global Workforce Intelligence (https://joshbersin.com/2022/08/the-confusing-job-market-ceos-and-chros-seem-baffled/) research points out that more and more industries are being redefined. Retailers are becoming healthcare companies. Car companies are becoming electric manufacturers. Chemical and Oil companies are moving into Hydrogen and Batteries. Telcos are becoming TechCos.

But to keep pace with this new reality requires the support of technology – technology that can upskill and reskill workforces and deliver dynamic career opportunities that drive personal and professional growth. At SAP SuccessFactors, we’re doing this with machine learning and AI-powered talent intelligence so organizations can enhance employee experience and create a resilient and dynamic culture. As employees individually accelerate growth in their careers, organizations are transformed.

Process Automation and Intergration in SAP - Road to Robust Internal Controls

In the Finance Function, Internal Controls play an important role in protecting business against error, poor practices, financial losses and detect fraud and collusion that are often overlooked in manual processes. Debswana Diamond Company went through a process of integrating its stand-alone systems to SAP in an effort to enhance internal controls and eliminate manual handling of data between systems and the results have been amazing with no audit findings, fraud or error. I believe there is a compelling case for automation and integration and SAP does make it easy and reasonable from a cost perspective.

Understanding the People Impact of the Move to Public Cloud: How to Prepare & Support the Organisation for Change- Before, During and After Go-Live

Technology is evolving rapidly and businesses need to stay abreast of new ways of working if they are to remain competitive. The success of any business initiative relies on the collective capability of its employees to execute on it, and while it’s simple to say that skills development is a necessity for businesses, the actual process is more complicated to set up. This is where having a strategy that will prepare and support the organisation for the change, spanning before, during and after go-live, comes into play.

The impact on people when changing any system or process, should not be underestimated. A 2020 SAP Digital Transformation Executive Study found that organizations that prioritize training and change management are 1.4 times more likely to report successful digital transformation outcomes compared to those that don't invest in these areas.

In this practical and informative session, we will share with you some of what we have learned in our 30 years of working in this field; ensuring successful user adoption, with many of the leading companies in South Africa.

In this session, you will learn how best to prepare for, and support your organisation for change- before, during and after go-live on a SAP S4/HANA cloud project with a focus on Change Management, Communications and Training.

Manage your Green Line Like You Manage Your Top- & Bottom-Line

Current ESG management relies heavily on data averages and estimates. Most companies have not fully integrated their ESG data recording and control into their core financial, procurement, supply chain management, and human resources (HR) systems. This financial and non-financial data is disconnected, stored in spreadsheets, not updated from real-time systems, and not easily shared within the company or with partners such as upstream suppliers or downstream logistics providers.

Considering that on average 90% of a business’s carbon footprint lies within its supply chain, the inability to track, manage, and gain insights from live data and embed it into core business processes can cripple even the best intentioned ESG efforts. Worse, it can mislead investors, create compliance issues, and misguide transformation efforts. Unifying ESG data provides significant gains in capabilities and competitive performance.

Companies cannot make sustainable business decisions using data they do not have or cannot use.

Having access to actual data that resides within a company’s technical landscape is the first step in being able to accurately report ESG factors. With this actual data companies can more confidently and readily report their performance to various reporting requirements and frameworks such as GRI, WEF, TCFD and the EU Taxonomy. Finally, companies want to act by planning with actionable insights, forecasts, and concrete targets to achieve measurable impacts.

  1. ESG solutions are difficult to manage as isolated entities.
  2. ESG reporting does not need to be a manually intensive exercise.
  3. ESG reporting should also be used to improve activities and processes.

Adapting With a Purpose: Lessons Learned About Change, Winning User Adoption, and Safeguarding Security and Compliance

Adopting best practices and implementing based on it can be quite straightforward and reduce implementation timelines, however, it might span across various teams, and business units with compliance considerations, regulations, and different countries. As such, defined Business Processes become an extremely valuable resource.

Our journey of several years has brought a better understanding of compliance risks, data integrity based on the architecture layout, and reporting challenges due to the tighter legislative and regulatory landscape.

This session provides a high level of why it is important to engage and carry the HR Strategy during the implementation and what to pack in your “lunch box” during the journey to Success with SuccessFactors Organizational Employee Administration and a turnaround on compliance training with LMS.

Insights into Managing People & Change in a Dynamic Work Environment

SuccessFactors: Organisation Structure Functionality

Organisation structures have a big impact on business processes and system functionality and is one of the areas that are most often overlooked when starting a new SuccessFactors Employee Central (EC) implementation.

Structures should be created to promote company growth and expansion while enabling strategic decisions and improving global alignment and reporting.

While companies often re-use structures that were defined on their legacy systems without fully understanding the SuccessFactors Org Structure functionality, attempting to optimise and update the structure during an implementation may result in delays.

In this session, Bertus will discuss potential areas to mitigate these risks and take you through a few key considerations to note prior to implementing SuccessFactors EC.

The main focus will be on how to evaluate the need to optimise and re-evaluate processes and structures to ensure clean and accurate data while looking at the potential impact on both HR and employees. Finally, he will elaborate on the balance between adapting vs. adopting and highlight how EPI-USE can facilitate with this process as part of the overall implementation.

2) Optimising a global organisation structure
3) Organisation structure in combination with other SuccessFactors structures
